Roberts Road Methane Recovery Electric Generating Plant

  • A landfill methane gas to electric generating station located on Roberts Road in Fayette County, Georgia. The landfill owner/operator is Allied Waste Management. The 50 acre landfill opened in 1980 and closed in 1993, and has about 4 million tons of waste in place. Generating capacity is 1.0 megawatt.
  • Online since October 2003.

Taylor County Methane Recovery Electric Generating Plant

  • A landfill methane gas to electric generating station located at Charing in Taylor County, Georgia. The landfill owner/operator is Allied Waste Management. Initial generating capacity is 4.0 megawatts.
  • Online since October 2003.

Tallassee Shoals Low Impact Hydro Project

  • Located on the Middle Oconee River, Tallassee Shoals began producing 2.3 megawatts of electricity from water in 2005. It is a certified facility by the Low Impact Hydro Institute.
  • Online since April 2005.

Sunpower for Schools Project

Carnesville Poultry Litter
Generating Plant

Green Power EMC recently announced it will purchase 20 megawatts of electricity from the state's first poultry litter-to-energy operation. The electricity will be provided by Earth Resources Inc., which is constructing a chicken litter-to-electricity plant near Carnesville, about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta.
